Anyone happen to know if old, dead vacuum cleaners fit into the electronic waste recycling category? The city website doesn't include them in the list, but it seems wrong to throw it in the regular garbage. (Freecycle/other reuse isn't an option - the machine is dead, Jim.) |

Happy Birthday, Apparently, we had an earthquake tonight. I didn't feel anything, or maybe I was too distracted with the baseball. ( SGA: Whispers ) Today was much better than yesterday, but Fridays are still hard. *crashes* |

I fail so badly at birthdays this year! ( If you had a birthday recently... ) Phew! In an effort to not spend today as I did yesterday - that is, camped out with Temeraire (finished book two before going to bed, just cracked open book 3) - I took myself to see Hamlet 2 today. It was entertaining, although I waver on whether it was worth seeing in theatres, but the five people total I shared the theatre with could have affected that perception. I laughed and "Rock Me, Sexy Jesus" is stuck in my head. ( Spoilerly caveats ) Afterwards, I had to swing by Target for surprisingly hard to find carpet cleaner (tragic wine accident - the only time I've ever been grateful for my fugly dark brown carpet) - and for a solution to a ridiculously bourgeois problem. Since switching to canvas bags for shopping, I've had the dilemma of how to deal with my recycling in the absence of brown paper bags. Solution: A short wire shelving unit and plastic bins. Now, I can just bring the bins down when they fill up, dump the contents in the appropriate large bins, and reuse. Yay! Plus, newly opened storage space on the top shelf. My only problem now is dealing with the mountain of boxes I've accumulated this week, what with the shelves and the new (refurbished) vacuum and the new (to me) DVD/VCR. * Let's get memey! ( 5 characters that start with T ) ( First lines meme ) * Finally, since I failed at making real plans for this weekend, I'm starting early on next. It's the Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival, with a side of free pie on Sunday. Anyone in the area up for a sugar rush? |

I spent this morning racing to the end of His Majesty's Dragon and almost immediately went out to get the next one. In other words, if you were waiting for a recommendation, that's an emphatic yes - so much that when the library's copy of the next two were checked out, I went over to the bookstore and picked up the first three for my very own. Got a sandwich and did some writing in between those points. Living a few blocks from all of the above is very convenient, although it makes it easier to forget the other errands I meant to do. *facepalm* Eh, that's what tomorrow's for. |

So when I got to work this morning and someone started talking about McCain's VP pick, which I hadn't known, my first thought was to blame my ignorance on not having regular Internet access. Because, you know, that's the only place for news. It is interesting, though, how I don't even consider television as a news source anymore. Why wait for a scheduled broadcast when I can get more up to date information online? TV is for my stories and fake news. <3 Also at work today, we spent possibly ten, maybe fifteen minutes gathering judgments on whether a certain messenger bag was intended for a man or a woman. Also, there was ping-pong. I love Fridays. PIMPING TIME! |

Autotranscribe = win. I'm not back, and in fact, unless my internet magically repairs itself, the earliest resolution I can expect is after my 8-10 Friday appointment. Woe, angst, garment rending. Why are the Olympics over? Eh, I'll probably camp out in coffee shops for the next few nights and read a lot (just started His Majesty's Dragon, yay). Anyway. Happy birthday to those having them, and have an amazing time if you're going to Dragon*Con! Okay, I should go do work now. |

Happy Birthday, and Happy Birthday, "It" in the subject is my vacuum cleaner. It up and died in the middle of doing its work, and no amount of cleaning out or fiddling has restored it to health. Eh, it cost all of ten bucks at a garage sale. I just wish it had waited till I was closer to being done to end itself. Great are my domestic woes. At least my blueberry muffin endeavor yesterday turned out well. I also got two more apocafic scenes onto the digital page. Last year, my fic was super-depressing, so I'm aiming for something a bit lighter this time around. No worries, though, the apocalypse is still upon them. With any luck, I'll get more of it done today after the laptop battery recharges. Whee, productivity. |

Happy Birthday, and Happy Birthday, and Happy Birthday, and in more timely news Happy Birthday, ( SGA: The Shrine ) I haven't mentioned the SGA cancellation here yet, and to be honest, it's because I don't have much of a reaction. Maybe I've become too used to my shows getting snatched away, or maybe it's that I've always felt that fandom has done much better by this show than its PTB ever did. It's not the only show to suffer that fate, but it's the most striking example of a canon truly better off in the hands of its fans. But I'm very sorry for those of you who are feeling that pain and wish you many hugs. |

I did end up out and about yesterday, so today is for sitting on my butt. :-D Thanks so much to those of you who are using LJ cuts. Because some people still aren't, I closed LJ as a precaution when last night's broadcast started and was promptly confronted with two hours of marathon. x_x You'd think they could show some other sport that doesn't get coverage during some of that time. Fortunately, I still had this week's Psych to watch. Briefly: ( SGA: Ghost in the Machine ) |

I was all motivated to bike today, but then I overslept. Whoops. I maybe need to sleep for more than five hours a night. SGA is looking iffy for me tonight. ( General commentary on the past week of Olympics watching, not including stuff tonight since we've barely started ) Okay, that's done, and with the shift in events, I don't expect to be bothering you with these posts for another week. I am tentatively planning to go up to the city tomorrow in the interest of getting away from the lure of the screen, and other things. It will all depend on not accidentaly sleeping till noon. |

I have said more than once that I haven't been looking forward to the next HP movie at all - I mean, I was planning to see it, eventually, but I couldn't have told you what month it was due to come out. Now? Oh-so-different. And it's not because of any anticipated change in the content or quality, but because this means major t00bage at (I really am sorry for those of you who were looking forward to a release this year.) In other squee: Coraline. I hit a wall of Tired at work today, right in the middle of my one-on-one with my manager. Awesome. |

Happy Birthday, There are a lot of zombie people wandering around at work this week - or wandering in later than usual since they overslept (consciously or otherwise). I'm in the first category. The Internet is a scary place these evenings, too. I closed LJ last night at nine, and it was a good thing I did, too. I don't know if I'll make it for all of tonight, in which case I'll make good use of your cut tags. ;-) It'll be better next week when it's all the track stuff I don't care about. Speaking of zombies, I did some apocafic writing yesterday. Just one scene, and kind of a short one, but it had humor value. Yes, I write apocafic with humor. I had this section pretty well envisioned, though, whereas the next one is not so clear. Also, it's too hot to have much laptop contact, so that's a problem. There was something else I wanted to say. Eh. Oh yeah! I have decided that my ultimate goal in life is to become so enveloped in a bubble of awesome/crazy that when I am old I can get away with saying whatever I want in front of a lot of people and get away with it. :-D Ah, time for the games. |

Another day, another bajillion hours of Olympics! And for me, it's not nearly over yet. FYI, in case you weren't aware, the US west coast broadcast is still three hours delayed from the east coast, so I get the pleasure of shaking my fist at Bob Costas every time he says they're bringing us something live. *shakes fist* As such, please remember to be kind and spoiler cut, if you would. Thanks much! I can only hope that they won't do something stupid in two years and artificially delay stuff happening in my freakin' time zone. They do it for all awards shows except the Oscars, so while I would like to think Vancouver will bring timely joy, I remain nervous. |

Happy Birthday, After running errands this morning that included picking up a bagload of snacks, I have spent most of the day watching sports. The daytime Olympic coverage was immediately followed by my baseball game, which will take me up to the not-really-live-for-PDT primetime coverage. Win! Less win: My internet crapped out in the middle of the afternoon, same as last weekend, requiring a modem reset. Both of these events happened during my anti-virus scan. Suspicious cat is suspicious. |

This is a long shot, but what the hell. My couch is lovely and wonderful, but its armrests are rather rectangular. I need pillows! My two slipcovers are navy blue and off-white, so my grand plan was to get large throws that match both by matching the funky color accents of the apartment. I've been looking, but finding nothing that hits every point (and isn't a bedroom pillowcase). Flist, my question for you: Have you perchance happened upon anything meeting these requirements, preferably in a (US) national chain or another vendor that offers online purchase? I understand that DIY is an option here, but I am not at all crafty and it's just not going to happen. ;-) |

Happy Birthday, and Happy Birthday, * I didn't work last night for the full four hours, but I managed most of a plot and one scene. The scene will need rewriting, and I still don't have an ending, but hey, that's how it goes with me. I actually came up with two possible plots - one more apocalyptic, one more unique. I'm going with the more conventional, yet more destructive. :-D * In other news, I call do-over on today. |
